The Hawaii magazine spread was a project for class as a way to experiment with creating pages for a spread in a travel magazine. The text was supplied by the teacher (which came from Wikipedia) and the only deliverable was to incorporate a block quote. I wanted to have two “destination” spots in each corner of the spread cut in a way that if they were put together, they would create a rectangle. I wanted the title of the spread to feel fresh and tropical. To obtain this feeling, I sampled colors directly from the beach image located on the first page. This project was used as an exercise in learning typography and how to uniquely utilize it within a design.
